If you are looking for an idyllic resort destination on Maui, odds are, you will find what you seek in Kapalua. With some of the island’s finest resorts and pristine beaches, it is no wonder this area is so popular with Valley Isle travelers. If you need help filling out your itinerary with things to do in Kapalua, Parrish Maui has you covered. We have many vacation rentals in Kapalua, and as such, we are area experts. Here are a few of our favorite things to do in Kapalua.
Hit the Beach
When you stay in Kapalua, there is always an immaculate beach nearby, making a trip to the beach one of the area’s top things to do. For swimming and watersports, head to D.T. Fleming Beach, which has lifeguards on duty. If snorkeling and scuba are more your speed, check out Honolua Bay, where you might be lucky enough to spot a sea turtle or manta ray. Honolua Bay is also a premier surfing spot in the winter months. Napili Beach is another option; one of the most family-friendly beaches on Maui, this is an excellent place for swimming, snorkeling, and paddle boarding.
Play a Round (or Two) of Golf
Maui, like the other Hawaiian Islands, is an excellent golf destination, and two courses in Kapalua are a big reason why. Kapalua Golf has two famous golf courses in the area, Kapalua Bay and Plantation. The Bay Course has hosted more major golf tournaments than any other course in Hawaii and even features a hole played over the ocean. It is a remarkable course, perhaps only rivaled by the Plantation Course. Known for its ocean views and downhill shots, the Plantation Course is a hit with professionals and novices alike. If you are a golfer, stopping for a round or two with Kapalua Golf is a must.
Hike the Kapalua Coastal Trail
Walk along the ocean and experience West Maui’s majestic scenery by hiking the Kapalua Coastal Trail. The Kapalua Coastal Trail is a 1.75-mile out and back trail, giving it a total length of about 3.5 miles. The majority of the trail is flat and easy to traverse, making it ideal for families with children. Along the way, you will pass Kapalua Bay, Namalu Bay, Oneloa Bay, and Honokahua Bay. If you want to rest your legs, there is beach access along the trail, allowing you to take a quick pitstop and relax at the beach.
Get a View of Dragon’s Teeth
Located near the Kapalua Coastal Trail and the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua, Dragon’s Teeth, also known as Makaluapuna Point, is a natural attraction that vaguely resembles dragon’s teeth, hence the name. This fascinating formation was formed when lava from the West Maui Volcano flowed into the ocean, only to be pushed back by powerful waves and wind. In the end, we were left with this unique landmark.
