Fleming Beach, also known as D.T. Fleming Beach, is undoubtedly one of the most exquisite beaches on Maui. Situated on West Maui’s Honokahua Bay, this beach features fantastic views, elegant white sand, and favorable conditions for many water activities.
Before you head to Fleming Beach, Parrish Maui has some information you will want to know before you go.
Fleming Beach Guide
Located just past the resort area in Kapalua, Fleming Beach is a popular beach for visitors and locals alike. Our vacation rentals in Kapalua are just a short distance away. The accessibility of Fleming Beach makes it a big hit with families. The beach is wide, and the sand is soft; it is backed by a barrage of dunes and ironwood trees, giving it a remote feel despite being close to some of the island’s top resorts. If you look out at the ocean, you will get a great view of Molokai, the fifth largest Hawaiian island.
Generally, the waves at Fleming Beach are calm, which makes for good swimming conditions. If safety is a concern, there is a lifeguard tower, where lifeguards are on duty daily. Beachgoers tend to gravitate towards the tower, leaving the sides of the beach more empty, perfect for those looking for a bit of peace and quiet.
Swimming is not the only activity to be enjoyed at Fleming Beach; this beach is famous for being one of the top bodysurfing destinations in Maui. Watersports enthusiasts can enjoy surfing and boogie boarding here too. Whether you are a surfer, boarder, or spectator, you are sure to get plenty of entertainment out of a day spent at Fleming Beach.
Fleming Beach has many amenities. There is a lot of parking nearby, including the main lot directly across the street from the beach. There are restrooms, complete with outdoor showers. If you are feeling hungry, pack a picnic lunch to enjoy at one of the beach’s picnic tables. Community barbecue grills are also available.
How Fleming Beach Park Got Its Name
Fleming Beach Park is named after David Thomas Fleming, who introduced the pineapple to West Maui. The introduction of the pineapple had a significant impact on Maui; the famous Maui Land & Pineapple Company was formed shortly afterward. Today, the Maui Land & Pineapple Company manages Kapalua Resort.
Maui Road Directions to Fleming Beach
Driving toward Kapalua on Honoapiilani Highway, look for Mile Marker 31. After the marker, there is a road and a sign for the beach; follow the road down to the parking area at its end.
