West Maui is home to some world-class beaches, but Slaughterhouse Beach is one spot that is often overlooked. Perhaps it is the name that scares travelers off – Slaughterhouse Beach got its name from an old slaughterhouse that once operated on the road above the beach. However, those interested in picturesque views, watersports, and tranquil beaches should not miss out on visiting this gem of a beach.

Slaughterhouse Beach Guide
Situated on Mokuleia Bay, Slaughterhouse Beach is a nice golden sand beach, perfect for a relaxing stop. If you visit Honolua Bay, Slaughterhouse Beach is just a few minutes away by car, but this beach provides a much different experience.
Cliffs and rocks surround the beach, giving it a secluded feel. The cliffs also provide shade during early and late in the day. From the road, you will have to take a large set of stairs down to the beach. However, do not let the stairs stop you from visiting this great beach.
The stretch of sandy beach is very nice and is perfect for lounging, beach strolls, and soaking up the sun. Slaughterhouse Beach is also a great place to swim. Though you likely will not encounter all of the incredible sealife that Honolua Bay offers, keep your eyes peeled, and you might spot a sea turtle or other sea creatures.
During the winter months, watersports are quite popular at Slaughterhouse Beach. During that time, surfers and boogie boarders take to the water to catch some waves. However, surfing and boogie boarding at Slaughterhouse Beach in the wintertime are only recommended for experienced boarders; the large surf can be dangerous for newcomers.
Before you go, be warned that Slaughterhouse Beach does not have any on-site facilities. If you plan on eating at the beach, be sure to pack your own bag to pick up after yourself.

Drive north along Honoapiilani Highway, also known as Highway 30. The beach and parking are located after Kapalua and just before Honolua Bay.
