If you are looking for a beautiful and accessible beach on Maui’s South Shore, Polo Beach in Wailea is a wonderful option. With soft golden sand, stellar conditions for beach activities, and more amenities than the average Maui beach, Polo Beach offers a relaxed setting that appeals to everyone. The team at Parrish Maui is here to give you a look at what makes Polo Beach worth visiting.
About Polo Beach
Located at the southern end of Wailea, Polo Beach sits near the Fairmont Kea Lani Resort and Polo Beach Club, but remains open to the public. The full name of the beach is Ke One o Polo, which translates to “the sand is not thick,” but most simply call it Polo Beach.
Despite its resort-adjacent location, the beach typically maintains a peaceful atmosphere. The north end of the beach is where resort guests primarily hang out, so if quiet is what you are looking for, head to the south end. You can enjoy great coastal views and a look at the neighboring island of Kahoolawe, the smallest of the main eight Hawaiian Islands.
Beach Activities & Amenities
Polo Beach offers excellent conditions for many favorite beach activities. During calm weather, especially in the morning, swimming is great. The sandy bottom provides an easy entry into the water, making it suitable for families and casual swimmers. Snorkeling can be especially rewarding near the rocky points at the north side of Polo Beach. Early mornings typically provide the best visibility and calmest seas for snorkeling.
For boogie boarding enthusiasts, Polo Beach is a prime spot on Maui. However, watch out for large swells, especially in winter, which can create dangerous conditions.
Polo Beach is well equipped for a comfortable beach day. There is a park area where visitors will find restrooms, showers, barbecue grills, and picnic tables, which is the perfect place for a picnic lunch or to wash up after your time in the sand.
